Corian is a material that has been invented and manufactured by DuPont since 1967. The importance of Corian is that it has revolutionized the industrial manufacturing of kitchen and bathroom countertops, with the benefit of the ability to be produced in any shape and be machined with the lathe like the wood.

It is a composite material made up of 2/3 of hydroxide of aluminum (trihydrate) and 1/3 of acrylic resin (polymethylmethacrylate) with an optional addition of colored pigments. It is also commonly called “acrylic stone”.
