Designer kitchen sinks: how and which to choose

The sink is a fundamental element in the kitchen. It provides practicality as well as elegance to the work surface that is most used in the home.

Kitchen sinks are increasingly refined and high design.

Because the kitchen sink is an important element, it is worthwhile evaluating it carefully.

Before deciding on sink features, it is important to know the measurements of the space where you want to place it.

During the planning or renovation phase, you can choose more freely where to position the drains and therefore the sinks, and how much space they will take up.

If you’ve chosen, instead, to upgrade to a new trend, in which spaces fuse, creating the concept of open space, then you would surely choose to give charm and elegance to the space by using a kitchen island, on which you can choose to install the sink, thereby gaining even more room to work.

A sink can possess different characteristics, shapes, and sizes: all aspects to be carefully considered, because not only do they help to decorate your environment, they also allow you to have a more comfortable and functional kitchen.

Let’s look at some possible configurations:

1. Single Basin
2. Double Basin
3. Sink with Draining Board

1. SINGLE BASIN SINK:

The single basin can be termed a design choice, very clean in line with square shapes.

You can, however, choose even rounded solutions if they are more in line with the style and decor of the kitchen.

The single basin, particularly if maxi in size, is aesthetically more beautiful and impressive than a double basin sink. For an even more minimal result, choose the under top solution.
The large single basin sink, in addition to making a more sober visual impact, is also very convenient.

2. DOUBLE BASIN

A perennial favorite is definitely the double basin, usually a larger one next to a smaller one.

3. BASIN WITH DRAINBOARD OR SLIDING CUTTING BOARD

Located next to a sink, the drainboard is very useful especially if you do not have a dishwasher, or if you use it infrequently.

A new way of interpreting the sink is undoubtedly with the choice of sliding cutting boards that work as closures, enabling the disappearance of the basins, thereby creating an elegant and refined continuity with the workspace.

With the configuration defined, one can pass to the choice of installation type.

Let’s see some together:

1. Built-in with Flat Edge
2. Flush-Mounted
3. Built-in Undermount

1. BUILT-IN WITH FLAT EDGE

The sink rests on the cooktop surface and protrudes a few millimeters. It is practical and interacts very well with all kitchens. It is in fact recommended with any top, regardless of the material and thickness.

2. FLUSH-MOUNTED

The edges of the basin are flush with the top. In touching it, no discontinuity is perceptible. An elegant solution, suitable for certain materials such as marble, granite, quartz, and corian.

3. BUILT-IN UNDERMOUNT

The built-in undertop is of great aesthetic impact. This solution provides more space and more freedom of movement at the top. It is the most elegant, and it is also more functional because of the absence of borders.

Even the selection of material in which the sink is made is important to consider.

Stainless steel is generally the most requested because of its characteristics related to hygiene and durability, but ceramic, granite, and stone ones are definitely beautiful and scenic.

Steel always gives a unique style, timeless, and above all durable and is liked by everyone, but among modern design solutions, there are also some variations that can really give a touch of elegance, such as the built-in washbasin in LAMINAM
